My studio is located in an old mill where they used to make women's hosiery. As I approached the material of fiber I found myself knotting in such a way that reminded me of women's silk stockings with seams up the back. The appearance is a 'blanket stitch' in embroidery terms. I've adopted this as my studios signature knot/stitch.
People who wore 'seams up the back' stockings often fussed at getting the seams straight and aligned. Kind of like an art practice.
